Git is a choice for many developers, groups and companies and you can find many resources online. I compiled a list of some of my favourites, and they can help us to grasp the “magic” of Git a bit better…
- Try github by codeschool: http://try.github.io (step-by-step on the basics, offers a terminal on the browser so you can type and see results as you go along. Pay attention to the “advice” panel on the bottom right for some good tips)
- Git Immersion: http://gitimmersion.com (guided tour)
- Git – the simple guide – “just a simple guide for getting started with git. no deep s*** ;)” http://rogerdudler.github.io/git-guide (quick and dirty) and the git cheat sheet: http://rogerdudler.github.io/git-guide/files/git_cheat_sheet.pdf
- The Pro Git book: http://git-scm.com/book
- The default help pages: https://help.github.com
- The git documentation: http://git-scm.com/documentation
Differences between Git and GitHub:
Git is a revision control system, a tool to manage your source code history. GitHub is a hosting service for Git repositories. So they are not the same thing: Git the tool, GitHub the service for projects that uses Git. [Source: Stackoverflow]
I hope this helps! Enjoy!
